Personally, I think that this is one of the best cards ever to appear in black. It might be a little pricey, but I like the fact that the x cost is the number of extra cards you discard, rather than how much more mana you plough into the casting cost, because this stops you overloading your hand and it means you might actually be able to cast some of the stuff you tutor the turn you tutor it.
Of course, there's also the fact that in some decks actually gain from you discarding stuff. Other than my recent mindslaver / white bringer deck, one that comes to mind is my souped-up 'rituals of rebirth' planar chaos theme deck, which actually might have benefited from this card. Sure, there's other stuff to make you discard your big stuff, like icatian crier, but this cetainly fits the theme. Imagine, you play this, discarding one big mother, and searching a rigor mortis or similar card. Provided you have enough mana left over, you're well and truly laughing.
