"502.40c: The spell doesn't gain any other characteristics (name, mana cost, color, supertypes, types, subtypes, etc.) of the spliced cards." The original card's CMC remains unchanged - all that changes in the original spell is that it now has the spliced card's rules text added to its effect. So Izzet Guildmage does work ;) Izzet + Ritual + Eye of Nowhere has some potential, too. It's not directly game-winning like Lava Spike, but still cool. Works on the same idea - just use unlimited copies of Eye of Nowhere to return every single permanent your opponents control to their hands. Odds are, mass-discard will ensue just as soon as their EOT step comes round, not to mention the fact that they have no land. If you can't win from that position, your deck needs some work :D

Errr, actually, the izzet guildmage combo won't work anyway, regardless of if it produces blue mana or not. by splicing it onto the arcane you increase its cost to 4, so its cant b repliacted. sorry johnny, just use tidewater generator instead

The combo with an Izzit Guild Mage wont work, however splice onto a Lava Spike and use a Djinn Illuminatus (not sure about the spelling). All you need is the Djinn out and 4 or 5 red mana free to start the loop and then thats it, you win!!

Izzet Guildmage + Desperate Ritual + Desperate Ritual Splice a desperate ritual onto the other one for 6{R}, it resolves, copy with the mage, rinse and repeat... it comes out to: pay for 2U if you have 4 islands, then for RRRRRR you can produce 24 mana. enough to win with a Fireball. still, i would rather go with Lava Spike for infinite damage.

That doesn't work. Desperate ritual generates red mana, Izzet Guildmage needs Blue to replicate it (its an instant) so its not self-feeding. Maybe would have some use in a U/R deck but is very mana intensive for not much benefit. Note though if Desperate ritual is spliced into an 2 mana or less Arcane Sorcery, the Izzet Guildmage can use the red mana it generates to set up an infinte repeat of the sorcery spell _cough_lava spike_/cough_ which can generate infinate damage. :)

INFINATE LAND AND KILL ALL OPPONENTS use desperate ritual then use another one to splice its effect onto the other desperate ritual to generate 6 mana. then use izzet guilmage to replicate the first desperate ritual over and over again because you use 3 out of the six land to replicate it then you get six more mana. keep repeating this till you have infinate land then use cards like blaze and replicate blaze to kill every opponent.
