They came, they saw, they brewed.
Now, as the dust settles, only one remains standing.
What are we talking about, again?
Back on 19 May, after Wizards of the Coast announced the contents of their Modern Event Deck (priced at £65), we set our readers a challenge: Can you construct a better Event Deck within the £65 budget?
We hacked the sprawling, tangled mass of entries down to a shortlist of 10; our judges whittled it further, until three decks were in a dead heat; now you, the voting public, have crowned a winner…
Izzet Delver – Richard Joslin
Richard’s Izzet Delver is a known archetype within Modern, but unlike many other decks within the format, it loses comparatively little when some of the most expensive cards are extracted. This may well have been what inspired him to enter a version in the competition – and our readership to vote overwhelmingly for it to take the top prize.
To the victor go the spoils
In recognition of his winning list, Richard will receive a full copy of the deck in the mail, sleeved and in a shiny new deck-box – all courtesy of Manaleak.com Congratulations, Mr Joslin!
Of course, when a competition is so close, it feels wrong for the other finalists to leave empty-handed. For that reason, we’re giving Adam Thomas and Luke Hoare £25 of store credit each for their Assault Loam and Life & Death submissions. Well brewed, folks.
Thanks to everyone!
To all those who submitted entries, those who voted – and those who simply cheered them on – we say thank you. It’s been great fun running this competition… if you liked it and think we should do more in future, make sure to tell us in the comments.
