mtgUK Competition – Design A Deck 2011

mtgUK Competition – Design A Deck 2011

Hi folks!

This it is our first competition at mtgUK. What we have decided to do is help all those players who attend FNM by giving them a variety of new inexpensive and fun decks to play with at their local events, deck’s that will be designed by you for players like you.

So what do you need to do to enter?

Well firstly you have to come up with an idea for a Standard legal deck consisting of a minimum of 60 cards, no sideboard is necessary for this competition although we do suggest that you include sideboard recommendations in your notes. You then have to post that deck along with any additional notes onto our Competition Forum (mtgUK Competitions) naming your thread:

Design a Deck – “Deck Name” by “Your Name”

What are the rules?

The deck has to be Standard format legal consisting of no less than 60 cards with a total value of £60 GBP or under based on our sponsor’s prices. Basic lands will not be counted towards the £60 GBP limit and you can include as many or as little as you think your deck should have.

You may enter up to a maximum of 3 decks and make as many alterations as you wish to each deck. On the competition closing date; the most recent list (version) of the deck will be used by the Judges, from the most recent 3 posts of that user. If you have posted a deck that you no longer wish to use as a submission then please delete it, or move it to this forum. endeavours to not change their prices for the next month to avoid pricing complications.

A tool we’d recommend to use is the Deck Design applet on the website that will allow you to enter your deck list and then price up all the cards for you. If the card has been reprinted then prices will be based on the lowest priced edition of the card.

You have until 00.01 on the 28th March to post a deck online, you may tweak this list as many times as you want. For further inspiration we would highly recommend talking about it on the mtgUK forums or mtgUK Chatroom. The end goal is to get the best version of the deck possible for £60 GBP or under. It will help everyone at this point if you write a few lines with your decklist on how you believe your deck will be winning matches.

Your most recent deck list on the site before the closing date will be accepted as your entry. You may enter as many deck lists as you’d like although please refrain from spamming.

This will be the deck that the Judges feel has pushed the boundaries of deck design or is on a theme which has yet to be broken.

We will also be handing out a more random prizes as random entry prizes, so even if you don’t win first prize you could still walk away with something very nice 🙂

If you need some inspiration for entries you can read my previous article on mtgUK here.

So who will be judging our entries?

Cyrus Bales, Rob Wagner and myself (Mark Pinder) will be your three Judges and our decision will be final.

Over the next three weeks we will also be doing a feature on the competition on mtgUK, highlighting some of the decks that have been featured on the Forums and giving you a rundown on the competition so far e.g. number of entries, deck meta etc.

We are really excited and looking forward to seeing some bright new innovative designs of decks; something even an established Magic player will see and say, “You know that’s a net deck I’d like to try at FNM this week!”

So head down to the Forums now and start posting!

Good luck,

Mark Pinder, Cyrus Bales & Rob Wagner

I have competed twice at GB nationals in 2010/2008, was Runner Up at Senior Nationals 2010, Won a Grand Prix Trial which took me to Paris 2009. My love of the game was such that I did previously win a writing competition on MTG Twincast which led to me being a Feature Writer for around a year until the Sponsor sold up but still did the occasional article. There is also a verb "To Pinder"colloquially used in northern magic communities which means "to gain life", I was a solid fan of Martyr of Sands/Proclamation of Rebirth combo and many players have heard those fateful words, Sacrifice Martyr of Sands, gain 21 life against me to see the game go out of their reach with lethal damage available to them next turn.
