Description

Alpha

Alpha cards can easily be distinguished from Beta and all other cards by their more rounded corners. Early tournament rules required that all cards must appear unmarked without the use of protective sleeves, and the unique corners of Alpha cards originally made them marked cards in a deck not entirely comprised of Alpha cards. This initially made them less desirable and thus less valuable than Beta and even Unlimited cards.

Due to the printing process, it is possible to get land cards in a rare, uncommon, or common card slot. The chance is approximately 3.31% for rares, 21.5% for uncommons and 38.02% for commons. This is because they put lands on all three printed sheets.

Alpha contained a number of errors that were fixed in the second, or Beta release: Circle of Protection: Black and Volcanic Island were accidentally left out of the set entirely. Additionally, only two versions of each basic land with unique artwork were included.

Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited Editions

Premiered at Origins '93 in July of that year, Magic: The Gathering; was first released to the general public on August 5, 1993. The "Alpha" set consisted of 295 cards. After the Alpha print run of 2.6 million cards, some corrections were made and the remaining 7.3 million cards were released as the "Beta" set (302 cards).

These first 10 million cards sold out quickly, and in December 1993, the Unlimited Edition was released. This white-bordered set consisted of the same 302 cards as the Beta print run

Really great service - from the comprehensive information on the website to the well packaged MTG cards when they arrived. The free cards I received when part of my order was delayed speaks volumes for the customer service Manaleak provides. Just placed my second order, and I'm sure there'll be many more. Thank you.
As I sit here drinking my tea and writing this short review, I look at my (recently used) Chaos Predator tank and reminded myself about my game that was played at Manaleak.com in Birmingham... The exterior is, infact misleading, and upon entering the complex, the interior was as if I entered an office! Climbing up the stairs and following the signs, I finally arrive at Manaleak.com; the place was lovely and spacious, full of refreshments and essentials needed for all sorts of games, be it tabletop or card games! Store manager was pretty cool, allowed me and a friend to play a game of Warhammer 40k (even took photos of the game, swell guys!) but I suppose what has impressed me is their knowledge and awesomeness, as well as the atmosphere - which was pretty cool... Service was pretty good too, I might add! I'd highly recommend Manaleak.com to all sorts of people, even if it’s just a catch up with some friends or (in my case!) battling over tabletop supremacy!!!
Very pleased with order, shipped and arrived promptly. Staff were helpful with the changes I made, and the prices were good. The free rare I got looks interesting as well. The website seemed a bit slow, though.
