Firstly, tutoring in black is good. It's unpredictable, and because it's an ability, it's hard to counter.
Secondly, it is expensive, but that's tempered by the alternate WUBRG cost. Might be a little hard to pull off, but that's what "channel the suns" is for.
Basically, if your deck is inclined this way anyway, you can do a lot worse, but probably don't bother otherwise. I use this card in my 'bring the slaver' deck (combo of the white bringer and mindlaver, in which I can theoretically summon the bringer turn two or fire off the combo turn three), but that's because I'm maindecking channel to cast the white bringer anyway.
And don't forget, when all's said and done, that it's a 5/5 trample.
